DSSUITE
The DIGISOLAR software suite (DS Suite) offers a comprehensive framework of five interconnected tools designed to support planning, operation and optimization of large-scale hybrid-ST systems, achieving high shares of renewables to accelerate the decarbonization for industrial process and DH demands.
- SunPeek – An open-source software providing a plug-and-play digital twin (DT) focused on solar collector fields, offering cost-effective, low-complexity solution for performance monitoring and performance verification, built on standardized methodologies and the ISO 24194 Power Check.
- Pytrnsys suite – A system-wide planning, design, and energy-focus DT tool for hybrid ST systems, encompassing all system components and their integration into industrial process and DH demands.
- FDD (Fault Detection and Diagnosis) – AI-powered tool to observe and early detect operational deviations, diagnose the causes of imminent faults, and recommend actionable solutions. It delivers operators actionable insights, enabling remote and proactive management, reducing downtime and improving system reliability.
- AEMS (Advance Energy Management System) – The AEMS is a real-time optimization tool using Model Predictive Control (MPC), combining data-driven AI and component-based models to optimize hybrid ST. Optimization goals include improving system efficiency, minimizing operational costs or reducing environmental impacts.
- VERIFY (Virtual Integrated Platform on Life Cycle Analysis) – The web-based platform performs Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) using variable, real-time CO2 emission from the electricity mix and conducting Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis on an annual base.

DIGISOLAR unified architecture: DigiSolar goes beyond individual tools by developing a cohesive architecture and data interface, enabling seamless communication between individual tools and integration with SCADA systems for data ingestion and transmission. The DS Suite will deliver a single, GUI-based application, providing a unified framework for accessing all individual tools. Each tool within the DS Suite will be designed following uniform principles, ensuring interoperability. This modular approach allows each tool to function independently while maintaining the ability to work synergistically within the DS Suite through standardized interfaces.
DIGISOLAR partners and future users, including planners, energy consultants, operators, engineers, collector manufacturers, and control experts, can leverage the tools either independently or collaboratively, depending on their specific needs. This design philosophy simplifies tool integration and enhances long-term usability by minimizing maintenance interactions while maximizing exploitation and scalability.
By adopting an open-source approach, DIGISOLAR promotes greater usability, collaborative innovation, reliability, and transparency. The project’s business models will focus on leveraging expert knowledge for applying and customizing the tools across different phases of project development, from planning to operation. Additionally, a revenue model will support tool updates and maintenance, employing strategies such as a freeware model with optional maintenance fees to ensure long-term sustainability and continuous improvement of the suite packages.
